- Dream House is a fun, light game wrapped in a nice looking app that offers an interesting campaign mode but not much else.
Each client has a set budget and three unique likes or dislikes that can be discovered by talking to them through new dialogue options. Likewise, Sims can now have opinions on specific styles or types of item. For example, a client might hate old-fashioned furniture but harbor a bizarre adoration for musical instruments.
You can also score a 3 point bonus if your house contains a bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. Whether you’ve just bought a home like me, have owned a for many years, or dream of having your own someday, Dream Home is instantly relatable and very quick to pick up. For those looking for a lightweight game with some strategic bite, the combination of a great theme and interesting gameplay choices make it an easy one to play with casual gamers. After a few plays, definitely consider spicing things up with the expansion to help shake the monotony that will eventually set in. This is fine if you just want to build and play and don’t care about the outcome. But if you want to win, you have to push past this comfort zone and build the house that scores the most points, even if it doesn’t look like your ideal house or like anywhere you’d ever want to live.

The game lasts 12 rounds and when everyone has completed their dream home it is time to score. However, they also have a maximum number of cards that can be played alongside one another. Décor items finish a room too but add a few points each at the end of the game. Accepting a job transports the player to a new lot, often a family’s home, and opens a UI menu with the specific gig’s requirements.
You can get a roofer which allows you a free roof card from the discard pile at the end of the game. A jackhammer allows you to sneak in and grab a card before the turn starts. A handyman allows you to swap two rooms in your home, and so on. Most directly, rooms are worth a variable amount of points based on how big they are. A three-card living room is worth nine points, while a single card is only worth one.

The volume of people sharing their glitches online is troubling, and we hope the developers work to address these issues. The meat and potatoes of Family Feud Dream Home is the questions. There are over 3,000, which means replay value is very high. And, because the game rounds are so short , it’s great to play in spurts. The questions do a good job of being non-culturally specific, so everybody should be able to participate.
After one game, you should have a grasp for how to optimize your play to build a high-scoring home. The gameplay mechanic of drafting a pair of cards leads to a lot of interesting scenarios. Having the first player token will help in this regard, but first pick doesn’t always lead to the perfect pairs if the combinations don’t align in your favour. Dream Home is an eye catching game, with bright colours used to make the room types easily differentiable.

Dream Home has a tutorial series which is presented as the initial stages of the campaign mode . The first tutorial steps you through the basics of the game, explaining how room and bonus cards work, the rest add on details as they go. The tutorials are fairly hands-off, only asking you to drag and drop cards.
Oddly, with gamers I’d recommend the rule change suggested for playing with children. The official rule for a 2 or 3 player game is for the first player to discard 2 or 1 choices so that there’s always one more option than the number of players. I much prefer to leave all of the choices, rather than the practical gamer choice of discarding the second-best combination. Home Functionality – you can score a 3 point bonus if each of your upper floors has a bathroom.
If you’re really stumped, you can click the “no answer” button, but this counts as a strike so you might as well guess. In team play, you can “steal” your opponent’s earnings by correctly guessing an answer she missed. Each round is worth more than the one before, so it’s still anyone’s game until the end. Conversely, failing to meet requirements or running over budget makes clients angry, thus decreasing your reputation and hampering future job opportunities. A before and after reel, comprised of the photos you have taken complete with painfully upbeat music, creates a cheesy, TV show-like tone with every grand reveal.
The online game options are thorough, letting you go so far as to choose the starting player. Unfortunately, it is the same old Asmodee Digital system where you have to sit around in an empty game you’ve created until it fills up. And you will definitely be sitting because there is, as far as I can tell, essentially no online user base for this game. I’ve never actually seen another player online and there is an open chat which, at the time of this writing, was averaging about a message a week.
The rulebook is clear and has plenty of pictures and examples. Older kids would have no trouble learning the game without adult intervention. It also plays very quickly and, with limited actions and options, has almost no downtime which keeps those with short attention spans engaged in the game. One of the first things you’ll see when you open the box is those brilliant house player boards.
If more than one card of certain room types are placed next to each other, your score bonus points for the larger room. (However, you are not allowed to exceed the maximum room size.) Similarly, certain types of rooms offer bonuses when placed next to other types of rooms. We purchased this game with our own money, this has not affected our review in any way. You can obviously design their home however you like, but fitting the client's brief and wowing them will earn you more money and reputation, the latter of which helps to secure higher-profile jobs.
What sets this Family Feud apart from other versions is the “Dream Home” portion of the title. With the money you earn playing Family Feud, you can buy an assortment of home decor items and snazz up your fictional house. The house itself consists of a family room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, and kids’ room. To these, you can add couches, tables, lamps, rugs, blinds, and a few accessories, making up a total of 150 items to choose from. Even taking before and after photos is a hands-on experienceA higher reputation leads to increasingly better paid jobs and even begins to unlock new types of gigs.
